Haryana Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya tested positive for Covid-19 Monday after he was admitted to a Fortis Hospital in Punjab’s Mohali where he was taken following complaint of breathing trouble.
A hospital spokesperson told The Indian Express that the 83-year-old Arya was kept in an isolation room. The hospital was yet to officially issue any health bulletin on the Governor’s health condition.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in a tweet wished Arya a speedy recovery.
Meanwhile, a two-time state minister and veteran politician OP Jain, 72, died at a hospital in Delhi. He too had tested positive for Covid-19. He had fallen ill a few days ago and was admitted to a hospital in Panipat from where he was referred to Delhi.
Jain had remained a minister in 1996 in Bansi Lal government. In 2009, he had won from Panipat (Rural) constituency. He extended support to the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government and was rewarded with a Cabinet berth.
Jain’s name had cropped up in a case pertaining to alleged suicide of a Kambopura village sarpanch due to which he did not contest 2014 Assembly polls. In 2019, he contested unsuccessfully from Panipat (Rural) constituency.
CM Khattar expressed grief over the demise of Jain. In his condolence message, Khattar said that Jain took a keen interest in politics and social works. “He held a special place in Aggarwal community,” he said.
