Increase your hair growth: 9 science based tips
Everyone wants healthier, thicker, and stronger hair. From slapping hair oils to popping hair supplements, most of us are willing to do (or buy!) anything that will help us achieve worthy long and strong hair.
Have you ever met a woman or a man who was satisfied with their hair? Me neither.
Hair is often associated with beauty and attractiveness, which is why most people always want that little extra that will help transform their hair from good to great.
I am, as a trichologist and celebrity cosmetologist suggest everyone about growing thick and long hair once and for all.
Before we get there, let’s first understand how our hair grows. Hair growth has three stages – Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen.
Each hair strand has its stage of development. The anagen stage is the growth stage and typically lasts between two to six years. The catagen phase comes after the anagen phase and is a stage of transition or renewal for the hair follicles. The telogen phase is the rest phase where the hair stops growing. Human hair grows on an average of about half-inch per month which means six inches in a year.
Now, that you are aware of the different stages of hair growth, let’s talk about points to stimulate your hair to grow faster and stronger.
1. Eat Smarter
“While genetics determines hair texture and curl, our diet plays a role in how genes can get expressed”.
“Be sure to get plenty of good quality protein and good fats like olive oil and Omega 3.”
I personally recommend food such as salmon, avocados, nuts, vegetables and fruits to get all the key nutrients needed for growing stronger hair.
2. Give Your Scalp A Massage
⦁ Heat a tablespoon of coconut oil or onion oil
⦁ Dip your fingertips in the oil and gently massage in a circular motion
Not only does a scalp massage feel great, but it also helps stimulate blood circulation, strengthen the roots and keep your hair moist.
Coconut oil or onion oil are packed with essential vitamins and nutrients and act as a natural hair conditioner too.
3. Trim Your Hair Regularly
Visit the salon once every 3-4 months and have your hair trimmed and split ends removed.
Because damaged hair, filled with split ends, inhibit the growth and health of hair by causing thinning, and breakage.
4. Don’t Wash Too Often
Using shampoo to wash your hair every day causes your hair to dry out and lose most of its natural essential oils. These oils travel from the scalp down the length of the strands, help to keep hair moist, and are essential for long hair. It’s a good habit to maintain a schedule and wash your hair 3-4 times a week at the most.
Use of chemical-free shampoos, which are enriched with hair-lengthening ingredients, help in the effective cleaning of hair while also keeping the tresses healthy and long.
Apply a decent amount of conditioner to your hair after every shampoo wash Because of deep conditioning help hydrate hair strands, repair damaged hair by eliminating frizziness and dullness.
5. Don’t Brush Too Often
Again, most women are convinced that the secret to long and healthy hair is brushing it incessantly. There are others who are scared that brushing hair will lead to hair fall, and avoid combing their hair unless explicitly required.
Brushing your hair not more than 5-10 minutes daily, stimulates the scalp, releases natural oils, and helps spread those oils down the length of the hair strands.
6. Lower your stress levels
Stress caused due to physiological or psychological factors negatively affects the health and growth of hair. It makes hair lose its density and volume and makes it look dull and malnourished. One should avoid stress by practising yoga, meditation and stress relieving exercises regularly. You should ensure you get at least 6-8 hours of sleep every day.
7. Use Supplementations
Ensuring you get adequate natural nutrition is important.
However, there are a variety of supplements like biotin and multivitamin tablets that are best suited for people aspiring for long and strong hair.
8. Protect your hair
Make sure your hair is covered with a scarf or a hat, when you leave the house, especially in harsh weather or dusty conditions to retain the hair moisture.
9. Drink Water
Ensure you drink at least 8-12 glasses of water a day.
Now that you know how to make your hair grow faster, what are you waiting for?
