Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli and middle-order batsman AB de Villiers are two of the most prolific run-scorers in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). A nightmare for bowlers, the two have scored a heap of runs in all editions of the tournament. RCB, who have impressed everybody with their performance in IPL 2020, will next take on Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) – who are languishing at the bottom of the points table.
Ahead of the match, the captains from both teams had an interesting conversation on social media. Kohli asked Rahul about one change he would want to see in T20 cricket. In his reply, the Karnataka batsman said he would want both Kohli and AB to be banned from the IPL from next season onwards.
“To start off, I think I would ask IPL to ban you and AB for next year. Once you have achieved a certain amount of runs, I think, the people should say ‘it’s enough’. Once you get 5,000 runs it’s enough, now you guys let the others do the work,” Rahul jokingly told his former RCB captain.
“Ask your bowlers first,” came Kohli’s reply considering KXIP bowlers have leaked plenty of runs in the ongoing edition.
On a serious note, Rahul said he wants more than six runs for maximums which cross the 100m distance.
Sharing his views on one change he would want to see in T20 cricket, Kohli said, “If I say yes to what you said, the bowlers are going to give me looks in the change room. I am going to say as captain, I would like to have the ability to review a wide, or a no-ball which could be a waist-high full-toss. We have seen historically how big these small things can be, in such a high-profile IPL and T20 cricket.”
After finishing at the bottom of the table in the last two seasons, RCB have produced a much better show in UAE – where the team is ranked third win 5 wins from 7 matches. Ahead of the tournament, Kohli said he was satisfied with the balance of the squad after a long time and his troops have not let him down.
Punjab, on the other hand, have had a forgettable run in the tournament so far where the team has won just 1 out of 7 matches. RCB will take on KXIP on Thursday with the match scheduled to be played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Oct 15.
